12 www.azbankers.org T hank you to everyone that attended our 2013 Director & CEO Col- lege that we hosted in conjunction with the FDIC at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort. The day was a huge success and began with a morning session led by the FDIC that focused on Corporate Governance. Our luncheon keynote speaker, Barry Broome, President and CEO, Greater Phoenix Economic Council, gave an inspiring outlook on economic development in Arizona compared to the rest of the country. With a renewed faith in our state we heard from Lauren Kingry, Superintendent of the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions, followed by the always compelling Lee McPheters, Research Professor of Economics W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University. As an escape from financial or bank- ing issues the next topic was “Intellectual Property Rights Protection and Data Privacy in International Commerce” and was delivered by former FBI agent, Stephen Cocco. The day ended with the incredibly interesting and humorous, Joe Clees of Ogletree Deakins. As the name suggests, “Bankers Gone Wild: Hot Topics in Employment Law,” you can imagine it was just what we needed to end the day on a high note…and laughing all the way to the bank. w 2013 Director & CEO College AzBA & FDIC: Paul Hickman and Barry Broome Bo Hughes of Pinnacle Bank and Paul Hickman Lee McPheters Paul Hickman and Lauren Kingry Ellen Poole of USAA with Troy Dodge, John Ryan, and Malcolm Todd Sloan of Ryan Rapp & Underwood
