In a household of seven, everyone worked; it didn’t matter your age or gender. My siblings and I were taught to get the job done right and on time,” said Rourke. In addition to a strong work ethic, her parents encouraged her to get involved in a variety of activities, from sports to church events. She was raised to work hard and give back, a simple notion she credits with helping advance her career. Rourke entered the banking indus- try immediately after graduating high school. “I knew I had to prove myself in order to compete with those with a col- lege education. Consequently, I set out to gain as much experience, knowledge and confidence as possible by learning the many different areas of the bank- ing industry. This diverse background helped groom me to be a better person and leader and has enabled me to take better care of our clients. It has always been my belief that when you are asked to do something, you do it and in a timely manner. Timeliness is the respect you show to others,” said Rourke. Rourke joined Bankers Trust 31 years ago as an Assistant Vice President tasked with starting the Bank’s Inter- national Banking Department.
