Why did US Bank decide to be involved in the Super Bowl? U.S. Bank is very involved in the Arizona community and economy. Our teams, clients and neighbors live and work in this great place and have a vested interest in events such as the Super Bowl. We wanted to be a part of the process - the excitement - and to have a voice in the positive impact this event would have on our community and market. What motivated you to personally be involved in the Super Bowl Committee? I am a football fan and enthusiast - although the Cardinals are my team of choice, I love the game and the excite- ment that surrounds it. There was an opportunity for me to be involved in the planning of a major event in a way that would bring a positive impact on this community and I jumped at the chance. Were there other women on the committee? Jodi Noble of Deloitte and Touche was also on the committee. I really enjoyed working with her - she's bright, innovative, fun and brought ideas to the forefront that really contributed to this Super Bowl's success. Were there other bankers on the committee? I was the only banker on the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee. It was an honor to serve on this committee and I felt a great responsibility to help make decisions that we felt were in the best interest of the people of Arizona. Mary Martuscelli of US Bank: Why She Served on the Super Bowl Host Committee What was the main goal of the committee? The main goal of the host commit- tee was to connect and empower local businesses, communities and stakehold- ers to maximize opportunities during the largest national single-day sporting event and to help Arizona thoughtfully prepare for the influx of visitors. Our goal was to host an event that brought positive exposure (both in the experi- ence and telling the story through media) to all of the wonderful people and businesses in our city and sur- rounding areas. And, for the guests who visited during this time, whether for the first time or as repeat visitors, to have a lasting positive impression of Arizona and an authentic immersion into our culture, which is really unique to this region. What did Phoenix (and the surround- ing areas) gain from hosting this event? It was an awesome game and a nail biter right down to the last minute! Whatever team you were rooting for, it was an emotional game and Arizona wanted to be there to help you celebrate or to comfort you - in other words, we wanted to make sure that we were able to meet whatever needs our guests had and to make sure all visitors were aware of the amazing places, people and events our city has to offer. So, the impact was positive from both an experience and an economic impact. What was the most rewarding factor of serving on the committee? It was an honor to serve on the com- mittee with such exceptional leaders who truly care about our state and the folks who visit us. Being a part of this committee was a chance to give back to our community. Our state was on the stage and was watched and cheered by people all over the world. It was a proud moment for me, and I hope the people of Arizona feel that we were able to provide a win for our state. w By MARY MARTUSCELLI , West Region President, U.S. Bank 4 www.azbankers.org
